HISTORY
The Boiler Room at Cutler Mill
The Story of the Boiler Room
At 16 Cutler Street in Warren, Rhode Island, stands the historic Cutler Mill, built in 1868 by Charles Cutler as a hub of local manufacturing. Like many New England mills of its time, the complex was powered by a dedicated boiler house, where massive steam boilers once roared, driving machinery and heating the expansive brick structure.
The Boiler Room was the beating heart of the mill. Its vaulted ceilings—soaring nearly 25 feet—were designed to house towering boilers, tall chimneys, and the intricate system of pipes and valves that fueled production. For decades, this space embodied the grit, ambition, and innovation that defined Rhode Island’s industrial heritage.
As the mill’s manufacturing era faded, the boilers were removed, but the space remained—its character preserved in the exposed brick, lofty scale, and architectural details. Today, the Boiler Room has been reborn as a venue where history and modern elegance meet. Once filled with steam and industry, it now comes alive with music, laughter, and celebration—making it one of New England’s most unique event spaces.
